"body": "**Detroit Diesel's Series 60 timing bulletin lists an intake valve lash of 0.203 mm (0.008 in.) for every Series 60 model it covers. Exhaust valve lash is 0.508 mm (0.020 in.) on some models and years and 0.660 mm (0.026 in.) on others, so the engine's model decides which one applies.**\n\n## What is the Series 60 valve lash?\n\nDetroit Diesel's service bulletin *Series 60® and Series 50® Camshaft Timing Specifications* (No. 04 TS-43Rev4, February 2021) collects valve lash, injector height, Jake Brake® lash and camshaft timing for Series 60 and Series 50 engines. Detroit files its service bulletins with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which publishes this one as [document MC-10187830-0001](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10187830-0001.pdf).\n\nThe bulletin's chart *Series 60 Diesel Valve Lash, Jake Brake Lash and Cam Timing Specs* lists, by engine model, year and DDEC version:\n\n- **Intake valve lash:** 0.203 mm (0.008 in.) on every Series 60 row.\n- **Exhaust valve lash:** 0.508 mm (0.020 in.) or 0.660 mm (0.026 in.), depending on the row.\n\nThe bulletin also reprints Detroit's EPA07 Series 60 service manual (6SE2007) valve adjustment section. That excerpt says to \"insert a 0.203 mm (0.008 in.) feeler gage between the tip of the valve stem and the valve button at the end of the rocker arm\" for the intake valves, and that \"the exhaust valves are adjusted the same way as the intake valves, except use a 0.508 mm (0.020 in.) feeler gage.\"\n\n## Which exhaust setting does my Series 60 use?\n\nRead the engine's model from the valve cover option label, then find that model's row in the [bulletin's chart](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10187830-0001.pdf). The bulletin says that if \"the valve cover option label is missing, illegible or incorrect you will need to check to see what camshaft is in the engine\", from the part number stamped on the rear face of the camshaft, or by entering the engine serial number in DDCSN, which \"will retrieve the model number which will provide the correct injector and valve adjustments.\"\n\nDetroit's bulletin gives its Customer Support Center, 800-445-1980 or csc@detroitdiesel.com, for questions.\n\n## Where is the adjustment procedure?\n\nThe bulletin includes the valve and injector adjustment procedure, its cylinder sequence and its torque values, reprinted from the Series 60 service manuals. Follow it [in the bulletin](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10187830-0001.pdf) or in Detroit's service manual for the engine. The bulletin gives settings, not an adjustment interval. The interval is in Detroit's maintenance documentation for the engine.\n\n## Confirm it for your engine\n\nConfirm the lash settings for the engine's serial number and model against Detroit's current service documentation, through [Demand Detroit](https://demanddetroit.com) or a Detroit dealer, before adjusting.\n\n## What should the service record show?\n\nA Series 60 valve adjustment record should show:\n\n- the date and the mileage or hours;\n- the engine model from the valve cover label, and the engine serial number;\n- the intake and exhaust lash the valves were set to;\n- whether the injectors and the Jake Brake were adjusted on the same visit.\n\nA valve adjustment runs on a different interval from the oil service, so it is its own line of work in the record, with the mileage or hours at which it was done.\n\n---\n\n*This page states manufacturer specifications and is not a service manual. Confirm every figure for your engine's serial number and model against Detroit's current service documentation before servicing it. Preventive maintenance is not a federal annual inspection and does not establish regulatory compliance.*",
