# Getting Started with Blue Collar Parts: Create an Account and Set Up Your First Customer

**Blue Collar Parts turns each service you perform into a record your customer can open: what was found, what was fixed, and who did the work.** Getting started takes an account, one customer, and one piece of equipment. This page walks through the first session.

## 1. Create your account

1. Open [Create an account](/auth/signup). The page reads **Sign in or create an account**.
2. Start with Google, or choose **Or use your email**, enter your **Email** and a **Password** that meets the rules shown under the field, and press **Create account**.
3. Check your inbox and confirm your email. The **Confirm your email** screen has a **Resend confirmation email** button if the message does not arrive.

You can start adding customers and recording work right away. Sending a record to a customer, setting a next service date, and decoding a VIN wait until your email is confirmed.

Already have an account? [Sign in](/auth/signin). Forgot your password? Use **Forgot password?** on the sign-in form.

## 2. Set up your first customer

A brand-new account opens a short guided setup titled **Set up your first customer**. It has four steps, and you can skip any of them and come back later:

1. **Add a customer**: the business or person you do the work for.
2. **Add an asset**: the truck, trailer, generator, or marine engine you service.
3. **See the record**: a preview of what your customer will receive.
4. **Add to calendar**: put the visit on your own calendar.

When you finish, **You're set up** offers **Start from a customer** or **Start from an asset**.

## 3. Do the first job

From there the work follows the same path every time: [start a service event](/kb/start-a-service-event), [record the service](/kb/record-a-pm-service), mark the work complete, and [send the record to your customer](/kb/send-a-record-to-your-customer).

Starting and completing work is free. You pay only when you send a record, and the price is shown on the button before you pay.

*Links into the app open your account. If you are not signed in, you will be asked to sign in first.*
