# Digital Preventive Maintenance Service Records You Send to Your Customer

A preventive-maintenance visit is easier to stand behind when the work is written down clearly and the customer has it. Blue Collar Parts uses a **service event** to keep the customer, the asset, and the work performed together.

## What a service event is

A service event is a dated record of work performed on a specific piece of equipment. It records who did the work, which asset it concerned, and the service information the technician entered. A service event is private to the technician's account while the work is being entered and completed.

## From finished work to your customer

Finishing the work and sending it are separate steps, and each one is its own action:

1. **Mark work complete.** The technician finishes the visit. Nothing is sent and nothing is charged.
2. **Send record.** The technician sends the completed record to their customer. This is the paid step.
3. **The customer confirms it.** The customer receives a link and confirms it to view the record.

Starting and completing a service event is free; you pay when you send the record. Prices are shown before you pay and are subject to change.

Nothing is sent automatically. A record reaches the customer only when the technician sends it, never as a side effect of entering work.

## Step by step

The [user guide](/kb/user-guide) lists every step in order, from your first customer to the sent record, with a page for each.

## What the customer receives

The customer is whoever the technician did the work for: the equipment owner, its operator, a fleet management company, or a maintenance and repair department. The record should give them a concise account of what was checked, found, done, and due next. [See what belongs in that report](/kb/what-belongs-in-a-pm-report-for-the-customer).

## Intervals and next service

Equipment is serviced on a schedule, but the correct schedule depends on the equipment, its operating conditions, and the manufacturer's documentation. A service record can preserve the date and meter or odometer context that makes the next visit easier to plan; it does not invent an interval or replace equipment-specific guidance.

## Who can see what

Service events are scoped to the technician's account. A technician sees their own customers, assets, and events; a request for another account's record does not return a redacted version of it, it returns nothing. A customer sees the record that was sent to them.
