Save a motor carrier customer's USDOT number, and Blue Collar Parts shows you that carrier's public FMCSA roadside inspection record before you start the work. It is reference information for you. It is not on the record you send your customer, and it is not a finding about the carrier.
What do I need?
A customer with a USDOT number. A USDOT number is 1 to 10 digits, with no letters or spaces. Add it when you add the customer, or open the customer later and press EDIT CUSTOMER.
What does the carrier record show?
Select the customer, and the panel beside it shows FMCSA · CARRIER RECORD, titled This carrier's roadside record. It covers FMCSA roadside inspections of that USDOT number in every state where the carrier was inspected, over the window the source holds, and shows:
- Inspections, Recorded violations and Out-of-service violations;
- Inspections with recorded violations, States where inspected and the Most recent inspection;
- when there are violations, Recorded violations: counts by vehicle system, then the 20 most recent, each with its date, the state where the truck was inspected, and whether it was out of service.
Each block names its source, and the last one gives the date the data was retrieved.
Who sees it?
Only you. The block is marked Only you, with "It isn't on your customer's record." Nothing from the carrier record is sent to your customer.
What does a recorded violation mean?
A recorded violation is an inspector's observation at roadside, not a finding of fault. A carrier can challenge one through FMCSA's DataQs process, and a correction may not appear yet. A carrier with no inspections in the window shows No inspections in this source's window. That is a fact about the data, not a clean record.
The record has no safety rating, score or rank, and it lists no VINs or unit numbers.
Can it fill in the customer's details?
Yes. Open the customer to edit it after the USDOT number is saved, and a panel titled FMCSA census for USDOT followed by the number lists what FMCSA holds for that carrier: the legal name, DBA, city, state and ZIP. Tick the details you want and press Use selected. Ticked details fill the form fields. Nothing is saved until you save the customer.
How does it help on the job?
Recorded violations are grouped by vehicle system, so you can see which systems inspectors have written up on this carrier's trucks. Use that to plan the PM. What you then check and record is your own work, and that is what your customer receives. See Record a PM service and the user guide.
